Dr. Figueroa received a BS in biomedical engineering from Tulane University and a Ph.D. in biomedical engineering from Drexel University. His research at Drexel focused on nanoscale science and engineering, specifically developing Surface Enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS) nanoparticle substrates for detection of biological molecules. He is a former NSF GK-12 fellow with experience developing STEM inquiry-based lessons for middle schools and high schools in the Philadelphia area.
Dr. Figueroa is an Associate Professor and Department Chair of the School of Engineering’s Department of Integrative STEM Education. His specialty is Engineering Education. His specialty is in the engineering design process and biotechnology. His research interests are in the areas of teacher preparation in engineering education, design through empathy, and issues of diversity. He is a member of ASEE, ITEEA, and NSTA.
