First-Year Seminar Program Award Winners

The First-Year Seminar (FYS) is a small seminar-style class that all entering first-year students take during their first year at TCNJ. The course enables students to work closely with a professor and their fellow students on a topic of their choosing outside of their major. It offers students an opportunity to engage in an intellectually exciting and challenging experience at the beginning of their college careers.

Each year, there are around 70 unique topics for the FYS. During this year’s Fall Celebration for the First-Year Seminar Program, Dr. Matthew Cathell, Associate Professor in TCNJEngineering’s Department of Integrative STEM Education, received the Outstanding First-Year Seminar Course Award for his course “The Artistry and Innovation of Pixar”. Dr. Mark Edwards, Adjunct Instructor for the Department of Integrative STEM Education, received the Robert Anderson Teaching Award for teaching “Imprisoned Minds”. Congratulations to both!
